Tony Scherr is arguably one of the most in-demand musicians in New York City. He has played extensively with Bill Frisell Trio, Sexmob, John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, Willie Nelson, Rickie Lee Jones, Ani Di franco, Jesse Harris, Sasha Dobson, and many many more. He can be heard on new and recent albums by Broken Social Scene's Jason Collett, Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Shawn Colvin, Teddy Thompson, Iron and Wine, Ursa Minor, and Aaron Neville with Keith Richards. Tony has a large and diverse discography. His tunes have made their way into indie-rock chanteuse Feist's live sets (and on her breakthrough release, Let It Die), and his performance of Jesse Harris' "You The Queen" landed in Ethan Hawke's film, The Hottest State.
To many, he is known as a prolific guitarist, bass player, producer, and singer/songwriter in his own right, In 2001 Smellslike records(Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Blonde Redhead, etc.) released his debut solo album "Come Around" to rave reviews. Scherr delivers his most compelling collection of compositions to date on his latest Smellslike release, "Twist In The Wind".
Tony Scherr Trio is Scherr's favorite enduring project featuring superstar drummer/record producer Anton Fier(Golden Palominos,The Feelies, Herbie Hancock, Bob Mould, Pere Ubu, The Lounge Lizards, Jack Bruce, John Zorn), and young bass wiz Rob Jost(Imogen Heap, Ursa Minor, Elysian Fields, Sesame Street, and The Saturday Night Live band). They have been playing critically acclaimed weekly residencies on Mondays at a succession of New York venues, and touring the world since 2005. Since June 2010, this band has been enjoying steady Monday nights at The Living Room; one of New York's favorite music venues where their new upcoming live album was recorded.
